What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural but altered state; Hypnosis is a natural state because we go in and out of the state daily (sleeping, daydreaming, etc), but it is altered because the conscious mind is also present.  In this state, we can access the ability to change or learn new emotional/ mental patterns and habitual behaviors, and we can also unlearn old patterns.

What is the subconscious mind?

The subconscious mind is the seat of emotions, imagination, memories, and creativity.  It motivates our behaviors.  All the involuntary functions of our body (breathing, autonomic nervous system, organ functions, etc.) are also under the control of the subconscious mind.  In daily life, we operate 90% from the subconscious mind and 10% from the conscious mind.  While we would like to think we are logical, and our choices are made from the conscious mind (logical, methodical, and reasonable mind) the choices involving strong emotions always win us over.  As much as we would like to think we can think our way out of problems, it is often not the case, and this is why it is difficult to kick old habits.

Why use hypnosis to promote change or promote healthy patterns?

While it is not entirely impossible to use the conscious mind to change our habitual patterns, it is far more effective to access the subconscious mind directly.  Why? Think about moving the 90% of weight with the 10% of the power.  There is a saying... the tip of the iceberg... the part above the water is the conscious mind, and the part under the water is the subconscious mind.  Our current-day issues/ symptoms/ behaviors/ patterns etc are often the result of strategies we created to navigate through childhood events.  We don't even need to attach any judgments or values to the events, and not all problematic strategies need to come from bad childhood events, they also could come from a good part of childhood memories. There are implicit memories (the memories we are not consciously aware of) stored in the subconscious mind that direct and motivate our emotional/ behavioral patterns.  We can't change these outdated patterns if we aren't consciously aware of why we created the strategies.  When we are in hypnosis, we can directly access subconscious materials, and we can give a framework to work through implicit memories, we can bring them to a solution state.  The techniques we use during the session include hypnotic programming, parts work, childhood/ prenatal regression, and past life regression.

What is a Hypnotherapist

A hypnotherapist is someone who understands how the subconscious mind works, can help clients work through implicit materials/ memories and can help bring them closer and closer to their goals. I will collaboratively work with you to identify your current issues (problem state), and your goal (solution state).  You can think the hypnotherapist is like your copilot; helping you to get point A- the problem state to point B- the solution state.  To overcome and eliminate obstacles in your journey toward your goal, a hypnotherapist helps you to get in touch with your subconscious mind and work through issues by using your memories and imagination.

Modalities Used in Hypnotherapy to Help You Get to Your Goals

Hypnotic Programming, Parts Work, Age Regression (Prenatal, Natal, and Childhood), Past Life Regression (if it is in your model), and Breathwork are used in the session depending on your goals and what is preventing you from resolving the issues.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Does the hypnotherapist/ hypnotist have power over me?

A. No. Hypnosis is a corroborative process. The hypnotherapist/ hypnotist helps you to articulate/define your goals and facilitates the sessions for you to achieve your goals.

Q. Can the hypnotist/ hypnotherapist put me in hypnosis against my will?

A.  No.  All hypnosis is self-hypnosis.  You will not be in hypnosis if you don't want to.  You can end hypnosis anytime you wish by simply opening your eyes or making a decision to end hypnosis. The goal of hypnotherapy is to help you achieve your goals, and it is really important for me to attend to what your wishes are during the process.

Q. Am I going to be unconscious and won't remember anything from the session afterward?

A. No. You will be 100% conscious during the session and you will remember everything from the session.  (As much as you can remember from regular therapy sessions or doctor's appointments).

Q. Are you going to make me cluck like a chicken?

A. Of course not!  Unless that is what you want to do :) You can't be made to do anything you wouldn't want to do or say anything you wouldn't want to say.  You are in 100% control during hypnosis.  You will never say or do against your values or morals.

Q. Am I going to reveal my darkest and deepest secret to you in hypnosis?

A. No.  The honesty, genuineness, and authenticity help the process and help you to get to the solution state, and at the same time, in hypnosis, you can choose what you would like to share with me.  You can withhold any information you wish to withhold.

Q. Am I going to get stuck in hypnosis?

A. No.  There is no one that got stuck in hypnosis.  Remember, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis, and you can terminate hypnosis by simply opening your eyes or counting 1,2,3,4,5.
